Reviving a Dream

Doug & Irene Scott (1996)

In 1996  we set out on a new adventure deciding to turn our 20-acre hobby farm into a full-time organic market garden enterprise and try out a relatively new concept called Community Shared Agriculture (CSA).  We enjoyed a modest measure of success and recognition in our first few years, however with the growing financial pressures of an expanding family we eventually decided to put our dream on hold, and Doug returned to full-time employment while Irene home-schooled our children. But we didn’t stop farming, continuing to grow our own organic produce and raising organic meat chickens and turkeys each year. Fast-forward to 2020 and we felt it was time to resurrect our dream. That summer we began selling a variety of organically grown lettuce and green mixes and a selection of other vegetables to our farm members along with our pasture-raised, organically fed meat chickens and turkeys. We invite you to join in our adventure by becoming a Lilliput Farm member and we will keep you posted on our progress, pricing and availability.

Why Choose Pastured Poultry

While many people enjoy chicken in their diet, most are unaware that roughly 90 percent of all chicken meat and eggs sold in stores come from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

CONTAIN MORE VITAMIN D and E

Studies show that pasture-raised chicken contains much higher concentrations of vitamins D3 and E compared to conventionally raised chicken. Vitamin D aids bone development and helps the body absorb calcium. Vitamin E is generally recognized as an important part of the diet that is beneficial to many organs. It acts as an antioxidant.

Pastured Poultry Nutritional Study
RICH IN OMEGA-3 FATS

Research indicates that consuming a diet with a high omega 6:3 ratio promotes inflammation and many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and autoimmune diseases.Test of pasture raised poultry showed a 67% decrease in Omega 6:3 ratio compared to non-pastured poultry.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

CAFOs are known for the large amounts of toxic byproducts they generate, which are dumped into the local ecosystem. By supporting pasture-raised poultry, you can help reduce pollution that is currently devastating the environment.

LOWER RISK OF FOODBORNE ILLNESSES

Foodborne illnesses are most often the result of crowded and unsanitary growing conditions. Choosing pasture-raised chicken can help reduce your chances of developing such illnesses because they are cleaner and healthier.
